CALL TO ACTION! We Need Your Help! The EPA is formulating regulations now that could dramatically impact your electric bill. You can change this if you act NOW! Even as climate change legislation remains stalled in Congress, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has begun taking steps to regulate carbon dioxide under the federal Clean Air Act. And their actions could have a dramatic effect on the price you pay for electricity. The Clean Air Act wasn’t intended to deal with carbon dioxide. It was tailored to curb harmful pollutants like sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides, which it does effectively. The Clean Air Act was originally passed in 1970 to control specific pollutants on a local and regional basis. In 2007, the U.S. Supreme Court determined that the term “pollutant” in the Clean Air Act includes carbon dioxide, and left it up to EPA to decide whether or not to take any action. Several members in the U.S. House and Senate - including Missouri’s Ike Skelton and Jo Ann Emerson, along with House Ag Chairman Collin Peterson - have introduced bipartisan proposals to stop EPA from using the Clean Air Act in this way. Two other efforts are being spearheaded by U.S. Rep. Earl Pomeroy (D-N.D.) and U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska). The nation’s electric co-ops welcome and endorse the efforts of Congress to limit EPA’s regulatory oversight. Members also can have an impact on the issue. Through the nationwide Our Energy, Our Future® grassroots campaign at www.ourenergy.coop, you can join with your local electric co-op in supporting members of Congress seeking other solutions. We will make that process simple for you if you will fill out the cards on this website and return them to the cooperative office. When you do this, we will send an e-mail on your behalf to your two U.S. senators and also your U.S. representative. Then, we will box up the cards sent in and deliver them in person during the electric cooperative legislative rally in May. Affordable electric bills must be at the heart of this debate, and we’re fighting on behalf of our members. Leaving matters up to unelected EPA bureaucrats is a major step in the wrong direction. - Scott Wilson, General Manager, Grundy Electric Cooperative, Inc. |

Grundy Electric Cooperative is pleased to announce we will continue our rebate program for energy efficiency measures in 2010. It is necessary that you contact our energy advisor, Randy Kinnison, prior to accepting bids or installation of HVAC equipment to receive the rebate. Certain restrictions apply. Grundy Electric’s energy advisor must perform an energy audit to properly size the HVAC equipment to your home. This helps you save money by avoiding the purchase of a unit that may be too large or too small for your home’s square footage. Review our Energy Efficiency Programs for 2010 here... Please contact Randy Kinnison, energy advisor at Grundy Electric Cooperative, regarding any of the rebates by calling toll free 1-800-279-2249 or (660) 359-3941, extension 30. |
