Grundy Electric Cooperative Announces winners of the Cooperative Youth Conference and Leadership Experience
(C.Y.C.L.E.) Essay Contest
March 20, 2007, Trenton, MO. - Three area high school juniors from Princeton, Spickard and Trenton will represent Grundy Electric Cooperative in Jefferson City this summer. The three delegates were selected from a group of high school juniors who wrote essays on the topic, “Can renewable energy offered by the cooperative be a viable part of today’s energy needs?”
The delegates are Princeton R-V High School Junior Matalie Lynch, daughter of Tom and Karen Lynch of
Spickard; Gilman City High School Junior Abbie Herrold, daughter of Dan and Debbie Herrold of Gilman City. and Trenton High School Junior Felicia
Udovich, daughter of Anthony and Kelly Udovich of Trenton.
The
youth leadership contest was open to any current high school junior attending a school located in one of the 12 counties served by Grundy Electric Cooperative. These counties include Mercer, Harrison, Grundy, Linn, Livingston, Sullivan, Putnam, Gentry, Daviess counties in Missouri and Wayne, Decatur and Ringgold counties in Iowa. Each contestant was required to submit a typewritten 1000 word essay. Judging was based on originality and subject knowledge.
Over 50 delegates from across the state will attend the all-expense paid Leadership Conference to be held July 25-27, 2007 in Jefferson City, Missouri. The conference focus will show students more about electric cooperatives, teach leadership skills and allow them to experience Missouri state government. The Cooperative Youth Conference and Leadership Experience received the 2006 National Cooperative Youth Program. The award is given to the program that best demonstrates service to the local communities. Programs from across the nation competed for this valued award.
