Grundy Electric Cooperative Announces winners of the Cooperative Youth Conference and Leadership Experience (C.Y.C.L.E.) Essay Contest
April 3, 2008 Trenton, MO. - Three area high school juniors from Gilman City, Lineville and Galt will represent Grundy Electric Cooperative in Jefferson City this summer. The three delegates were selected from a group of high school juniors who wrote essays on the topic, “Using Energy More Efficiently”.
The delegates are Gilman City R-IV Junior Shaina Renee Hale, daughter of Gordon Hale of Gilman City; Lineville-Clio High School Junior Kallie Erin Shields, daughter of David and Kathy Shields of Lineville and Grundy County R-V High School Junior Aaron Followwill, son of Ronald and Connie Followwill of Galt.
The youth leadership contest was open to any current high school junior attending a school located in one of the 12 counties served by Grundy Electric Cooperative. These counties include Mercer, Harrison, Grundy, Linn, Livingston, Sullivan, Putnam, Gentry, Daviess counties in Missouri and Wayne, Decatur and Ringgold counties in Iowa. Each contestant was required to submit a typewritten 1000 word essay. Judging was based on originality and subject knowledge.
Approximately 75 delegates from across the state will attend the all-expense paid Leadership
Conference to be held July 23-25, 2008 in Jefferson City, Missouri. The conference focus will
show students more about electric cooperatives, teach leadership skills and allow them to
experience Missouri state government. The Cooperative Youth Conference and Leadership
Experience received the 2006 National Cooperative Youth Program Award. The award is given to
the program that best demonstrates service to the local communities. Programs from across the
nation competed for this valued award.
