Rate Adjustment Effective on May 2007 Bills

Grundy Electric continues to inform the membership of an upcoming rate increase to be implemented this spring. An overall Cooperative rate increase of approximately 4.4% will be reflected on members May 2007 bills. The exact rate increase to each member will vary, based on member usage and the current rate classification. “Even though no one wants to hear that electric rates are increasing, it is our duty to keep our member-owners informed,” said general manager Scott Wilson.

What is causing rising electric rates? Associated Electric Cooperative (AECI), the power generator for Grundy Electric and 50 additional distribution cooperatives in Missouri, Iowa and Oklahoma has implemented a plan for a series of rate increases over the next several years. These increases will assist in covering costs associated with new, expensive environmental requirements, costly new generation to meet load growth, and increasing coal and natural gas costs. Associated continues to be proactive in getting in front of issues and long-term planning in order to protect its member-owner systems. Thus, with AECI forecasting future expenses, Grundy can prepare the cooperative and members for future rate increases.

As your Cooperative, we strive to bring our members reliable service at the most economical price. In order to maintain our financial stability it will be necessary to adjust our rates. Grundy Electric will continue to work hard to limit expenses and ensure a financially stable cooperative. We will include a chart showing the new rates in the next issue of Rural Missouri.
