Grundy Electric Cooperative Essay Winners Attend Conference
July 30, 2007, Trenton, MO. – Three outstanding young leaders from a group of area high school juniors represented Grundy Electric Cooperative at the
Cooperative Youth Conference and Leadership Experience (C.Y.C.L.E.) in Jefferson City. The three youth were among 65 high school students from across Missouri who participated in the Electric Cooperative C.Y.C.L.E. Program held July 25-27.

Representing Grundy Electric were Abbie Herrold of Gilman City High School, daughter of Dan and Debbie Herrold of Gilman City; Matalie Lynch of Princeton R-V High School, daughter of Tom and Karen Lynch of Spickard and Felicia Udovich of Trenton High School, daughter of Anthony and Kelly Udovich. The students were chosen based on their written essays
“Can renewable energy offered by the cooperative be a viable part of today’s energy needs?”
Each year in July, an action-filled three days provides delegates the opportunity to learn firsthand what it is like to be involved in politics, experience the cooperative form of business and leadership skills. The program included nationally known speakers, a day at the Missouri State Capitol and education about electric cooperatives. Groups were also divided up into smaller teams that competed in various events like the “build a cooperative” game. Guest speaker Mike Schlappi, a former wheelchair basketball Olympic champion challenged the youth with his speech, “If you can’t stand up, stand out”.
The CYCLE Program is in its fourth year, and recently received the National Community Youth Service award for the top youth program among all electric cooperatives in the country.
