Peggy Boulware, corporate development manager of the Cooperative introduced special guests and the GEC Board of Directors and their spouses.
Grundy Electric Cooperative Board President, Dan Lentz presided over the business meeting. Lentz’ report emphasized the importance of energy efficiency during a time of rising energy costs. He discussed the results of the nationwide residential member survey conducted by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association. Lentz stated that Grundy Electric scored an 89 (on a scale of 100), which was well above both the Touchstone Energy average of 80-82 and the utility industry average. More than 8 out of 10 GEC members gave the cooperative high ratings.
General Manager, Scott Wilson advised members that future wholesale power rate increases was the largest challenge to be faced. He stated that each year for the next few years the cooperative is projecting double digit rate increases from our power supplier Associated Electric. A video regarding major challenges facing Associated Electric and Grundy Electric was viewed. Grundy will strive to keep the rate increases to GEC members as low as possible. Wilson promised member-owners that Grundy Electric Cooperative was seriously committed to providing better service and will do all we can to keep rates stable. “We will strive to do the best job possible,” stated Wilson.
Members elected two directors by acclamation to serve 3-year terms. Incumbent Eric Woodard of Trenton, Missouri was re-elected to represent Area #1; incumbent Joe Hartley of Mercer, Missouri was re-elected to represent Area #4.
Special guest speaker was newscaster and director of the Missourinet, Bob Priddy. Mr. Priddy talked about Missouri’s history including electric cooperatives. He informed the membership that rural electric cooperatives rose to the occasion back in the 1930’s in order to bring electricity to rural homes and farms. He stated that electricity was a luxury that only “city folk” had. He reminded members that the cooperatives job is not done yet, Grundy must continue to supply the countryside with electricity at an affordable rate.
Grundy Electric Cooperative Directors held a re-organizational meeting in which the following officers were elected: Dan Lentz, President; Joe Hartley, Vice President; Lewis Jones, Secretary; Richard Moore, Treasurer;
Marvin Harding, Assistant Secretary. Other board members include: Tom Ewing, Jack Clark, and Eric Woodard.
