Grundy Electric Cooperative Hosts 69th Annual Meeting

Approximately 485 individuals attended Grundy Electric Cooperative’s 69th Annual Membership Meeting held September 4th at the South Harrison High School, Bethany, Missouri. Prior to the business meeting, members enjoyed the evening meal served by members of the Harrison County 4-H Council and musical entertainment by “Young Country, LLC” from Laredo, Missouri.

Information booths containing Grundy Electric Cooperative, GEC Community Foundation, Inc., Mid-States Services, LLC and Mid-West Propane & Refined Fuels, LLC products and services were available for members to view. Prior to the business meeting, GEC Community Foundation, Inc. President, Cliff Addison, and Vice President Glenda Homedale presented the 4th quarter grants to successful recipients. Recipients included: North Harrison R-III School, Eagleville; South Harrison R-II Elementary and High School, Bethany; Newtown-Harris R-III School, Newtown; Ridgeway R-V School, Ridgeway; Grundy R-V Elementary School, Humphreys; S.M. Rissler Elementary School, Trenton; North Mercer R-III School, Mercer; Harrison County Health Department, Bethany and Mercer County Health Department, Princeton.
Cliff Addison, president of GEC Community Foundation, Inc. awarded the 4th quarter grants to successful recipients and discussed the importance of Operation Round-Up, encouraging members to participate. Pastor Trent Wilhite of the Blue Ridge Christian Church gave the invocation. Peggy
Boulware, corporate development manager of the Cooperative introduced special guests and the GEC Board of Directors and their spouses.
Grundy Electric Cooperative Board President, Dan Lentz presided over the business meeting. He thanked all members for their patience and understanding during the December 2007 ice storm. Lentz shared with the membership, the challenges facing GEC including increased wholesale power costs.
General Manager, Scott Wilson updated members regarding “Take Control and Save”, a new
energy efficiency program. The intent of the program is to find affordable ways to slow the growing electricity needs of the Associated Electric system, which Grundy is a part of.
Special guest speaker was Executive Vice President/CEO of the Association of Missouri Electric Cooperatives Barry Hart. Mr. Hart asked the membership to participate in the “Our Energy, Our Future” campaign. Hart expressed the importance of contacting our legislators in Washington, D.C. regarding affordable energy, research and making certain members have all the electricity needed in the future.
Members elected three directors by acclamation to serve 3-year terms. Incumbent Tom Ewing of Lineville, Iowa was re-elected to serve Area #3; Richard Moore of Princeton, Missouri was re-elected to represent Area #4 and Marvin Harding of Ridgeway, Missouri was re-elected to represent Area #5.

Grundy Electric Cooperative Directors held a re-organizational meeting in which the following officers were elected: Dan Lentz, President; Joe Hartley, Vice President; Lewis Jones, Secretary; Richard Moore, Treasurer; Marvin Harding, Assistant Secretary. Other board members include: Tom Ewing, Jack Clark, and Eric
Woodard.
Congratulations to the lucky winners in the prize drawings. The Grand Prize Winner of one year free electricity was
Mr. Charles Hartley of Mercer. The second grand prize winner of six months free electricity was
Ms. Nancy Scarpitta of Mercer. Other prize winners were:
